Meet Your Forester

Welcome to Osprey Resource Management! I’m Kirk Sehlmeyer, and I’ve been diving deep into the forestry and natural resource world since 2010, working in both public and private sectors. After graduating from Ohio State, I found my way to the beautiful Sandpoint, Idaho in 2012, where I started as a forester with the USDA. By 2020, I was ready for a new adventure, and Osprey Resource Consulting was born.

Why do I do this? Simply put—I’m living my dream! I’m passionate about protecting and improving our forests and working lands, and I’m endlessly fascinated by how plants, animals, and fungi work together to make our ecosystems thrive. My goal is to create management systems that don’t just maintain, but enhance forest health. But the real highlight of this work? The incredible people I get to meet along the way. I’ve had the privilege of helping folks across the Northwest make their corner of the world a little greener.

When I’m not out in the woods for work, you’ll still find me outdoors—backpacking, fly fishing, or hunting for mushrooms. And every winter, I escape the cold and chase the sunshine, spending anywhere a few months traveling through Central and South America. I love improving my Spanish, learning about local history, and even fishing for piranha in the Amazon. These adventures are an essential part of my life, keeping me grounded and recharged for the work I love.
